Fall 2020 FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

As the fall season approaches and there is still uncertainty with what will happen with the Covid-19 pandemic we have put together a list of frequently asked questions which might help you determine if you would like to register you players for the Fall 2020 soccer season. Please review the questions/answers below. If thins are not clear or you are still not certain please email us at [email protected] for more information.

Will there be a Fall 2020 season?

Yes, there will be a Fall 2020 AYSO season if your Region 180 AYSO Leadership Team has anything to say about it.  We are committed to getting players on the soccer fields and are working diligently to plan a season that meets the recommended safety guidelines related to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Could the Fall 2020 Season be cancelled altogether?

Your Region 180 Leadership Team is doing everything they can to produce a Fall 2020 season, but there is a chance that as Fall gets closer, Santa Barbara County and/or the State of California may put forth an order that shuts down youth sports depending on what happens with the pandemic in the next few months.  We’re also reviewing and digesting AYSO’s Return to Play guidelines to ensure the safest possible environment for AYSO families and players.

What if the Fall 2020 Season gets cancelled?

Your Leadership Team is offering pre-registration right now where you sign up your player and fees will be collected later when we’re ready to build teams. That way we know how many players/families are interested and if the season gets cancelled, we haven’t collected any fees and won't have to issue refunds.

Will referees/players have to wear masks?

Current recommendations are for referees to wear masks during pregame procedures with coaches & players.  During play, referees will do their best to maintain 6 feet of distance from players and will not be required to wear masks.

  • At this time, players will not be required to wear masks during play.
  • Parents/coaches/volunteers may be required to wear masks.
  • All mask-wearing guidelines will depend on what the recommendations are as we get closer to Fall.

What accommodations is AYSO planning to make to keep my player safe?

It’s difficult to know just yet what ordinances might be in effect this Fall, but your Region 180 Leadership Team is considering many possible options.  As we get closer to Fall we’ll be able to finalize our plans, but here are some possibilities:

  • Smaller teams to limit player interaction with large numbers of other players
  • Smaller divisions to again limit player interaction with large numbers of players
  •  Playing games on Friday or Sunday in addition to Saturday to limit the number of teams on the fields at a time
  •  Redesign fields to allow for more sideline space to keep teams on opposite sides of field and spread out spectators
  •  Spectators may be limited to immediate family

How is AYSO going to implement these safety accommodations?

Your Region 180 Leadership is committed to the safety or your player and family.  To implement the various local and state Covid-19 restrictions we will need more trained volunteers.  Safety is imperative and the more trained volunteers we have, the safer the game will be. Please consider coaching/refereeing/Division Coordinator, etc.  Please go to aysosyv.org if you are interested in volunteering and/or want more information about how you can help.

Why should I pre-register when things are so uncertain?

Pre-registering now gives your Region 180 Leadership Team an idea of how many families are interested in playing and helps greatly with our planning.

Our family has been hit hard financially by the Pandemic and what if we’re not sure we can afford soccer this year?

Your Region 180 Leadership Team understands that many of our families and neighbors are facing financial uncertainty so we’ve extended the “Early Bird” discount throughout the entire registration period.
