AYSO Santa Ynez Valley - Region 180

Volunteer Points

AYSO is a 100% volunteer organization. Therefore we rely on all parents to participate in one way or another, whether it be as a member of the board, coach, assistant coach, referee, or helping out in other ways.  In order to ensure that all teams participate our region has implemented a Volunteer Points system in which each team is required to earn a minimum number of points during the regular season. Any team which does not meet the minimum point requirement will not be eligible to represent Region 180 in the Area Q Tournament in December.

Go to the Volunteer Sign Up Sheet to sign up for different volunteer duties.

Volunteer Points are organized into two sections:

  1. Volunteer points
  2. Referee points (16 points)
Each section has a minimum number of points required, and in some cases a maximum number that can be earned:

1. Volunteer Points

Each team must earn a minimum of 12 points during the regular season
  • 1 point for Team Manager (registered, Safe Haven/Concussion training), 1 point maximum.
  • 1 point for head coach and/or assistant coach attending pre-season meeting, 1 point maximum.
  • 1 point for a member of the team (parent/coach) having current CPR training, 1 point maximum.
  • 1 point for Saturday morning set-up – no maximum. This involves arriving early, delivering nets, flags, ladders, trash cans to the fields, setting up canopies, etc. It does not include setting up the nets which is the responsibility of the teams playing in the first game.
  • 1 point for Saturday afternoon clean-up – no maximum. This involves staying late, picking up the nets, flags, ladders, trash cans from the fields, taking down canopies, and basic clean up. It does not include the taking down of nets which is the responsibility of the teams playing in the last game.
  • 1 point for being a member of the AYSO 180 board – 2 points maximum
  • 1 point for support of hospitality function – 2 hrs. minimum, no maximum
  • 1 point for support of picture day – 2 hrs. minimum, 2 points maximum
  • 1 point for support of “Field Maintenance days”, 2 points maximum

2. Referee Points

Each team must earn a minimum number of points during the regular season (U6 = 2 points, U8 = 7 points, U10-U14 = 16 points)
  • 4 points for sending a new referee to basic referee training, or for an existing referee upgrading their certification - no maximum. Must referee at least 2 games to receive the points.
  • 2 points for Center Referee for U10 and above - no maximum
  • 1 point for Center Referee for U8 - no maximum
  • 1 point for Assistant Referee for U10 and above - no maximum
  • 1/2 point for Assistant Referee for U8 - no maximum
Teams that have earned all the required points will participate in the season-end regional tournament.

At least 1/2 of the referee points must be earned by a parent or youth on the team other than a coach.

Referees can only apply points to teams on which they have a child, sibling, or other relative. Referees cannot give their points away to other teams.

Referees can earn as many points as they would like in a single weekend. However, only the weekend maximum (4 points) will be applied to a single team's point total.

Points Submission

Team manager (or head coach) should report points to their Division Coordinator. Division Coordinators will validate points and submit them to the Volunteer Points Coordinator. Division Coordinators will check point totals weekly and provide status updates to each coach and ensure the number of points are being tracked by each team.

Region Referee Administrator (RRA) is responsible to update referee points weekly.

Points will be updated weekly at the fields (Snack bar and Hospitality table) and on the region website at www.aysosyv.org
